Marketplace rules
Last updated: 11 September 2026
Draft version. This text describes how Climb Tribute actually works today, but has not yet been reviewed by a legal professional and does not constitute legal advice.
The Marketplace lets members sell second-hand climbing, mountaineering and outdoor gear between individuals. Climb Tribute collects no payment and plays no part in shipping.
This is a translation that still requires legal review. The French version prevails.
What you can sell
Climbing, bouldering, mountaineering, ski touring, hiking, trail running, camping and bivouac gear, mountain clothing, guidebooks and accessories, in your possession and honestly described.
What is prohibited
- any item outside climbing / mountain / outdoor;
- stolen or counterfeit gear, or gear subject to a manufacturer recall;
- damaged safety gear, gear that has taken a major fall, or gear with an unknown history, presented as safe;
- copies of guidebooks, pirated files;
- disguised professional listings and spam;
- requests for payment through an untraceable method imposed on the buyer.
Second-hand safety gear: be careful
Ropes, harnesses, helmets, slings, quickdraws, avalanche transceivers and progression gear have a limited lifespan and an invisible history. Always state the age, use and any falls. As a buyer, inspect the gear, ask about its history and walk away if in doubt: your safety comes before a bargain.
Transaction
Price, payment, hand-over and any shipping are negotiated directly between the two members, through the platform's messaging. Climb Tribute offers no built-in payment, holds no funds and provides no guarantee or refund.
Prefer an in-person hand-over in a public place, test the gear, and never send money to a member you cannot reach.
Privacy
Give an area (town or region), never your exact address in a listing. Exchange precise details by private message, only once the transaction is under way.
Reporting and moderation
Every listing has a report action. We may hide a listing, ask for a correction or restrict an account. Sold, reserved or withdrawn listings remain visible to their author in "My listings".
