Draft version. This text describes how Climb Tribute actually works today, but has not yet been reviewed by a legal professional and does not constitute legal advice.
This page describes the data Climb Tribute actually processes today, without theoretical promises.
This is a translation that still requires legal review. The French version prevails.
Data we process
- Account: email address, encrypted password or Google identifier, creation and sign-in dates. Your email is never shown publicly.
- Public profile: climber name, username, photo, bio, town or approximate area, region, country, disciplines and level ranges.
- Ascents: route or boulder, grade, date, style, attempts, notes, rating, public or private visibility.
- Feed: posts, photos, likes, comments.
- Marketplace: listings, photos, price, condition, hand-over area, favourites, conversations and private messages.
- Contributions: place suggestions, corrections, suggested guidebooks, reports, with your member identifier.
- Technical: technical logs needed for the operation and security of the service.
What is public, what is private
Public: your profile, your non-private ascents, your posts, your comments and your available listings.
Private: your email address, ascents marked private, your favourites, your reports and your Marketplace conversations, accessible only to participants.
Location: we do not ask for a precise address. The area of your profile and of your listings is deliberately approximate; do not publish your exact address. If you use the "near me" filter, your position is used to compute the display and is not stored in your profile.
Why we process this data
To provide the service (account, map, logbook, feed, marketplace, messaging), to moderate content and contributions, to keep the platform secure and to meet our legal obligations.
Hosting and service providers
Data is hosted by our infrastructure providers (database, file storage, application hosting), who act on our behalf. The map is displayed through Google Maps, which receives the requests needed for display. News items link to external media. Some place data comes from OpenStreetMap.
Photos
Profile, post and listing photos are stored in private spaces and served through temporary links. Do not publish photos of identifiable people without their consent.
Retention
We keep your data as long as your account exists. After a deletion request, your personal content is deleted and your identity is anonymised; some data is kept for the integrity of the service (see below).
Account deletion
When an account is deleted:
- Deleted: posts, post photos, comments, likes, favourites, ascents and personal logbook entries, listings and listing photos, follows, profile photo, account access.
- Anonymised: your profile (name replaced by "Deleted climber", bio, area and levels erased) and, consequently, your identity in retained Marketplace conversations.
- Kept: Marketplace messages already exchanged, so the other person's conversation stays coherent; places and corrections already accepted, since they now belong to the community map; moderation decisions.
This behaviour is shown to you before confirmation, on the account deletion page.
Your rights
You can access your data, correct it from your profile, request its deletion and object to certain processing. Write to us from the contact page; we reply within a reasonable time.
Security
Access to data is restricted by rules enforced in the database, private files go through temporary links and administration roles are separated. No system is perfectly secure: we do not promise absolute security.
