Terms of use

Draft version. This text describes how Climb Tribute actually works today, but has not yet been reviewed by a legal professional and does not constitute legal advice.

Climb Tribute is a community platform for climbers: a map of places, a post feed, an ascent logbook, news and a small marketplace for second-hand gear between individuals. By using the service, you accept these terms.

This is a translation that still requires legal review. The French version prevails.

1. The service

Climb Tribute gives access to information about crags, boulders, gyms, shops and lodgings for climbers, to member profiles, a post feed, a personal ascent logbook, a news digest and gear listings between individuals.

The service is provided "as is". We may change, suspend or remove features, particularly during this launch phase.

2. Your account

Creating an account requires a valid email address (or Google sign-in) and a climber name. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for the activity carried out from your account. An account is personal.

Your profile (climber name, username, photo, bio, approximate area, disciplines, levels) is public. Your email address is never shown publicly.

3. Content you publish

You remain responsible for what you publish: feed posts, photos, comments, ascents, listings, private messages, place suggestions and corrections.

The following are notably prohibited:

  • illegal, hateful, harassing, defamatory or pornographic content;
  • photos of people published without their consent;
  • unauthorised copies of guidebooks or protected works;
  • false access or safety information;
  • spam, disguised advertising and off-topic listings;
  • large-scale automated collection of the platform's data.

By publishing, you grant us the right to host and display your content as part of the service. You remain its author.

4. Contributions about places

Place suggestions and corrections sent by members are not published automatically: they are reviewed by the team before appearing on the map. We may correct, refuse or remove a contribution, in particular if it is unverifiable, promotional or dangerous.

Accepted place data becomes community data on the map: it may be kept even if you delete your account, without your identity.

5. Marketplace between individuals

Climb Tribute is neither a seller, nor a buyer, nor a payment intermediary. We collect nothing, ship nothing, and guarantee neither the condition, conformity or safety of the gear, nor the good faith of the parties. Detailed rules are set out in the Marketplace rules.

6. Moderation

We may remove content, refuse a contribution, hide a listing, restrict or close an account in case of breach of these terms, a well-founded report or a risk to members. We aim to act proportionately and, where possible, to explain our decision.

7. Climbing information

Place information may be incomplete or wrong. The climbing notice is an integral part of these terms: read it before using the map to plan an outing.

8. External links and sources

The platform links to external websites (official sites of gyms, shops, huts, guidebook publishers, media). We do not control these sites and are not responsible for them. Some place data comes from OpenStreetMap and its contributors, under that source's licence.

9. Account deletion

You can request deletion of your account from your profile. What is deleted, anonymised or kept is explained on the deletion page and in the privacy policy.

10. Liability and security

We take reasonable measures to protect the service and data, but we do not promise absolute security or continuous availability. To the extent permitted by applicable law, our liability is limited to foreseeable direct damage.

11. Changes to these terms

These terms may change as the product evolves. In case of a significant change, we will indicate it in the application.
